The Commercial Director plays a critical part in supporting the commercial success of the company. The Commercial Director is responsible for developing and implementing the group commercial strategy, working across multiple business units and engaging with with senior leaders to support commercial strategies that achieve budgetary targets.


What are the key responsibilities? 

  • Develop the group commercial strategy and drive financial performance and achievement of budgetary targets
  • Support and enhance our quality of earnings across the group
  • Support the group senior leadership team to identify new commercial opportunities and maximise profit in existing operational areas
  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify new products and opportunities to develop our value proposition
  • Acquire new businesss customers and oversee the management of existing client relationships
  • Monitor and evaluate commercial performance using key metrics and prepare reports for board and executive committees
  • Develop and oversee governance frameworks within area of responsibility
  • Comply with FCA conduct rules, integrate them into commercial activities and ensure that colleagues within area of responsibility have sufficient knowledge and skills to comply. 

What do you need for success in this role? 


A strong commercial awareness and an entrepreneurial mindset is essential for this role. You’ll need to communicate with business partners and clients and have good negotiation skills. We’re a fast-paced  busines and the ability to manage yourself is essential, and you’ll be able to use your strong influencing skills to have a dynamic positive impact on the business – both commercially and culturally. 



As our Commercial Director its essential that you are driven, determined, proactive and resilient.  You will need to effectively engage with, and support the group leadership team to achieve your objectives while acting positively in line with our cultural values and ethos. 


Its essential that you have experience and a proven track record in a similar role at a senior level. Experience within the insurance sector is desirable but not essential, as is experience within an FCA regulated financial services company. 


You’ll be required to know how to work with senior leaders to develop and implement sound commercial strategies. You will also need knowledge of how to market our products and services effectively and how to develop a customer value proposition. The right person may not necessarily possess and in-depth knowledge of insurance products and distribution and claims initially, but will be required to get up to speed reasonably quickly.
